FIFA- the governing body of football

The full form of FIFA is ‘Federation International Football Association’. It is the general governing system for all the football associations in the world. The headquarters of FIFA is located in Zurich in Switzerland. The head post of the body is held by Sepp Blatter. FIFA is the main body which hosts all the major football events. The primary event hosted by FIFA is the World Cup.

Formation

FIFA governing body was formed in the year 1904. FIFA has a membership base of 208 football associations from different countries. It has sixteen members extra compared to other major bodies like the UN (United Nations) and the Olympic committee.

Laws of FIFA

  Many of the laws that are prevailing in the game are made by FIFA. The IFAB is the board that maintains the rules of the game.  FIFA represents half of the board of IFAB and has 4 representatives who discuss about the policies. FIFA has been instrumental in the creating a great game that has a lot of history and creativity. The football association in UK which includes; England, Wales, Ireland, and also Scotland combine together with FIFA to create the policies for football.

Structure and composition

FIFA has been established by the Swiss law regime. FIFA congress is the main body of FIFA and it has an affiliation with all the national federations. The FIFA congress has a general meeting every year where any changes are declared on the existing laws. The main person’s who manages the office are the president and the general secretary. They are the people who perform the daily administration.

Main events and awards

FIFA provides an award called the ‘FIFA player of the year’ award which is presented to the player who showed a consistent performance throughout a playing season. It is an annual award which is given every year. European player award is also a major award given to the best European players.
